Helaas

(maar ze blijft een heldin)

Dulko Defeats Navratilova

It was the match Martina Navratilova wanted to win after losing a one-sided opening round match in Paris a few weeks ago.

The 47 year-old said then that she would love to play Gisela Dulko on grass, where she knew the surface would favour her, much as clay did for the 19 year-old from Argentina.

Unfortunately for the veteran American, the intended grass court tennis lesson didn't materialise into a victory, as Dulko ran out a 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 winner after 1 hour and 33 minutes.

The veteran started very well. With her impressive singles record of 167 titles and 18 Grand Slams, nine of which were won at Wimbledon, Navratilova was quickly into her stride, determined to show the youngster that playing on grass required specialist skills.

Within 13 minutes she had made the break to lead Dulko 3-1, dominating the net as often as possible.

There was no indication that the Argentine youngster was overawed by the former champion's presence, or her play. She doggedly played her game and often had Navratilova on the back foot with her aggressive play, mostly off the baseline.

Her efforts paid off as gradually the power of her groundstrokes took their toll, often forcing Navratilova into volleying error, passing her at the net or wrong-footing her on the baseline.

The battle between the volleyer and baseliner ended with the latter taking the honours.

Their head-to-head is now 2-0 in favour of Dulko but she, like the crowd, surely appreciated Navratilova's performance, which did credit to the grass court game.

HELDIN

Martina Sprints to Victory

Martina Navratilova had a guard of honour on her way to Court Two from the locker room at Wimbledon today. And her supporters were still there on her way back, following a 6-0, 6-1 demolition of Colombian Catalina Castano.

She gave a shy smile and small wave as she entered the court considered the Graveyard of the Champions.

It marked the first time the nine-times title holder had competed in the singles at The Championships since her final defeat against Conchita Martinez 10 years ago. It was also the beginning of what will be her last appearance at the tournament that made her famous.

And when she raced into a 5-0 lead in the first set against Castano it seemed as if the 47-year-old was destined to make more history and reach the second round.

Wimbledon was criticised for giving her a wild card that could have been taken up by one of the new breed. The critics pointed to her defeat in the opening round of the French Open against Gisela Dulko after Roland Garros had also given her a wild card.

Navratilova herself had insisted she had entered purely to gain match practice for her doubles campaign with Lisa Raymond, her fellow American.

But cometh the hour, cometh the champion, to ensure her last hurrah would not be an embarrassing one.

She was aided by an opponent in just her second main draw match at the event. Castano seemed overawed and it must have been difficult for her facing a legend 23 years her senior and with 167 titles to her name while she was in search of her first.

Navratilova was allowed to play within herself. Her touch around the net was as good as ever but the Colombian was clearly nervous.

Nothing changed after the rain delay as Navratilova completed the whitewash in the opening set, although Castano debated the line call on set point.

It was a similar story in the second set as Navratilova, whose last singles win came two years go at Eastbourne, roared into a 5-0 lead.

The crowd offered the Colombian sympathetic applause as she finally won a game. But it was a temporary respite as Navratilova converted her fourth match point and hoisted her fist in the air while a broad smile lit up her face.

Melissa Etheridge

Is in july weer in het land ( hint hint Truus ;-)

*Yes I am* was haar coming out nummer.
Even downloaden om de passie te horen.

Heb hier en daar weer wat teveel homofobe uitspraken gelezen;
tijd voor *Yes I am*; een mooie tekst, die ook zomaar door de heteroseksuele mens gezongen zou kunnen worden:

Yes I am. Melissa Etheridge

In these days and these hours of fury
When the darkness and answers are thin
Lovers come and check out in a hurry
Shallow and hollow again
Come lay your body beside me
To dream to sleep with the lamb
To the question your eyes seem to send

Am I your passion your promise your end
I say I am
Yes I am
Your passion your promise your end
Yes I am

Barring divine intervention
There is nothing between you and I
And if I carelessly forgot to mention
Your body your power can sanctify
Come feed your hunger your thirst
Lay it down the beast will die
You can question my heart once again

Am I your passion your promise your end
I say I am
Yes I am
Your passion your promise your end
Yes I am

I will stand firm in the tempest
I will ride destinys' trail
To believe when the truth comes up empty
To hold and respect without fail
Come and be one in the motion
A desire they cannot comprehend
Never to question again
For I am your passion your promise your end
Oh yes I am

Maria Duval

Truus&Trellie hebben een gratis consult aangevraagd - schriftelijk- bij Maria Duval.
( de enige helderziende die door de paus erkend is overigens)

maar nu; 6 augustus dat is een datum om in de gaten te houden;

aha opletten dus

Truus krijgt er ook een beetje van langs;
